แม่หมัดหนึ่งตัววางไข่ได้วันละหลายสิบฟอง ไข่ไม่เหนียว จึงร่วงจากตัวน้องลงพื้นตรงที่น้องชอบนอน พูดง่าย ๆ คือถ้าวันนี้เราหวีเจอหมัด 5 ตัว แปลว่าในบ้านยังมีอีกเป็นร้อยที่เรามองไม่เห็น

น้องไม่เคยออกไปไหน แล้วหมัดเข้ามาทางไหน

• ติดมากับคนในบ้าน ไข่และตัวอ่อนเกาะมากับชายกางเกง ถุงเท้า พื้นรองเท้า แล้วหล่นลงพื้นห้อง

• สัตว์จรที่ผ่านหน้าบ้าน หมาแมวจร หนู หรือกระรอก ที่เดินผ่านสนาม ระเบียง ใต้ถุน ทิ้งไข่หมัดไว้ในดินและหญ้า

• ออกนอกบ้านสั้น ๆ ไปอาบน้ำตัดขน ไปฉีดวัคซีน หรือแค่ลงไปเดินหน้าหมู่บ้าน 5 นาที ก็พอแล้ว

• บ้านติดกัน ทาวน์เฮาส์ ห้องเช่า รั้วร่วม หมัดข้ามมาจากบ้านข้าง ๆ ได้สบาย

อาบน้ำแล้วทำไมยังเป็นซ้ำ

เพราะแชมพูกำจัดหมัดจัดการได้เฉพาะตัวที่อยู่บนตัวน้องในนาทีนั้น พอขนแห้งฤทธิ์ก็หมด แต่ดักแด้ที่ซ่อนอยู่ในบ้านยังอยู่ครบ ดักแด้มีเปลือกหุ้มหนา ยาพ่นซึมเข้าได้ยาก และรอได้เป็นเดือนจนกว่าจะรู้สึกถึงแรงสั่นสะเทือนหรือความอุ่นของสิ่งมีชีวิตที่เดินผ่าน แล้วค่อยฟักออกมา

นี่คือเหตุผลที่หลายบ้านรู้สึกว่า "หายไปอาทิตย์เดียวแล้วกลับมาอีก" ไม่ใช่ยาไม่ดี แต่เราจัดการแค่ 5% ที่มองเห็น

หน้าฝนบ้านเรา วงจรหมัดสั้นลง

ในที่เย็นและแห้ง ไข่หมัดใช้เวลาหลายสัปดาห์กว่าจะโตเป็นตัวเต็มวัย แต่ในสภาพอุ่นชื้นแบบหน้าฝนปทุมธานี วงจรนี้หดสั้นลงเหลือไม่กี่สัปดาห์ จำนวนหมัดจึงทวีขึ้นเร็วกว่าที่เจ้าของทัน

สรุป: ต้องทำอะไรบ้าง

1. ให้ยาป้องกันหมัดต่อเนื่องทุกเดือน และให้ สัตว์เลี้ยงทุกตัวในบ้าน ไม่ใช่เฉพาะตัวที่มีอาการ

2. ดูดฝุ่นพื้น ซอกโซฟา ใต้เตียง สัปดาห์ละ 2-3 ครั้ง แล้วทิ้งถุงทันที

3. ซักที่นอนและผ้าห่มของน้องด้วยน้ำร้อน

4. ถ้าน้องเกาจนผิวแดง ขนร่วงเป็นหย่อม มีตุ่มหรือสะเก็ดดำ ๆ ควรให้หมอตรวจ เพราะบางตัวแพ้น้ำลายหมัดแค่โดนกัดไม่กี่ครั้งก็คันหนัก และการเลียกินหมัดยังพาพยาธิตัวตืดเข้าไปได้ด้วย

"My Dog Never Goes Outside — He Doesn't Need Flea Prevention"

"My dog stays indoors, he doesn't need flea treatment." Seven out of ten owners who bring a pet to us for fleas say exactly that — and nearly all of them are puzzled about how an indoor-only pet picked them up. During the rainy season here in Rangsit, Khlong 5 and Thanyaburi, when humidity stays high all day, we see a clear jump in pets who scratch non-stop and keep getting reinfested after a flea bath. Here's what's really going on.

The fleas you see are the smallest part of the problem

Adult fleas on your pet's coat make up only about 5% of the total flea population. The other 95% are eggs, larvae and pupae sitting in your floors, sofa seams, pet beds, rugs and tile grout. A single female lays dozens of eggs a day, and those eggs roll straight off your pet onto wherever they sleep. Find five fleas on the comb, and there are likely hundreds more in the house.

How fleas get in when your pet never leaves

• On you. Eggs and larvae hitch a ride on trouser cuffs, socks and shoe soles.

• Street animals. Strays, rats and squirrels crossing your yard, balcony or driveway leave eggs in the soil and grass.

• Short trips out. Grooming appointments, vet visits, or a five-minute walk down the soi is plenty.

• Shared walls. Townhouses and shared fences let fleas move between homes easily.

• Second-hand items. Donated beds, rugs and carriers.

Indoor-only cats get fleas for exactly these reasons.

Why the reinfestation keeps happening

Flea shampoo only kills what's on the coat at that moment. Once the fur dries, the protection is gone — while the pupae hidden around your home remain untouched. Pupae have a tough protective casing that sprays struggle to penetrate, and they can wait weeks for the vibration and warmth of a passing animal before hatching. That's why it feels like the fleas "came back" after one good week. Nothing failed; you simply treated the visible 5%.

Rainy season speeds the cycle up

In cool, dry conditions the egg-to-adult cycle takes several weeks. In the warm, humid conditions of a Pathum Thani rainy season, it can compress to just a couple of weeks — so numbers climb faster than most owners expect.

What actually works

1. Use a monthly preventive year-round, on every pet in the house, not just the itchy one.

2. Vacuum floors, sofa seams and under beds two to three times a week, and bin the bag right away.

3. Wash pet bedding in hot water.

4. If the skin is red, patchy or has scabs and black specks, have a vet look. Some pets are allergic to flea saliva and react badly to just a few bites, and swallowing fleas while grooming can pass on tapeworm.
